Box Office: PVR Cinemas leads the list of top tax paying exhibitors for the year 2019

Today filmmaking has become one of the most lucrative businesses, and more so is the business of exhibiting films. In a market that is dominated by theatre chains, that are constantly expanding their reach, we at Bollywood Hungama decided to take a look at some of the top exhibitors.

In this box office report we take a look at the theatre chains in India, analysing their estimated footfalls, collections, and effective tax payments done on revenue generated. Based on these metrics we rank the top exhibitors within the country. Leading the list with highest number of footfalls, collections and tax paid is PVR Cinemas that witnessed 10.95 cr. footfalls with collections of Rs. 1842.24 cr. Interestingly, PVR ended up paying a whopping Rs. 354.99 cr. as tax the same year. Following PVR, are the theatre chains INOX that paid Rs. 288.42 cr. as tax, Carnival Cinemas that paid Rs. 137.60 cr., Cinepolis that paid Rs. 122.07 cr., and Miraj that paid Rs. 36.63 cr.

With the highest number of multiplexes and screens within India PVR leading the list of exhibitors was a given, especially considering the theatre chain’s reach.
