Amid the nationwide protest regarding Citizenship Amendment Act, Union Minister Piyush Goyal had invited numerous Bollywood biggies for a dinner on Sunday, over which the myths and realities about CAA were to be discussed. However, most of them gave it a miss, filmmaker Kabir Khan being one of them.
In a recent interview, Khan, who initially said he was 'busy' and hence did not head for the dinner, did not hide his disappointment over the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University being attacked by masked miscreants on Sunday. The attack that reportedly left several seriously injured has irked protests across the country, with several Bollywood stars such as Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker, Pooja Bhatt, Farhan Akhtar and Anurag Kashyap coming out in solidarity as well. Khan, whose father was a professor of JNU, said these were bigger issues that needed immediate address and dinners could wait. He himself happens to be a former student of Jamia Mlilia Islamia University that witnessed a violent conflict last month. He added that the photos from Sunday's attacks broke his heart. He also strongly condemned the instance where goons broke into the campus and assaulted both the teachers and the students.
On Monday, Bollywood meanwhile showed up at Mumbai's Carter Road to lend support to the protest opposing the attack.
