Need a new smartphone. Currently have a S8+. Are there any phones that are comparable to an S8+ without paying the premium price? Should I wait it out for any sales?

So the story: While working out, I significantly cracked my S8+ that I've had for 2.5 yrs. I'm sad. It's been a great phone that has not slowed down (much) compared to other phones I have had. Regardless, I need to get a new one as the screen continues to slowly chip away. I'm on a verizon plan (US) with my brothers. We def dont want to change providers. I love my phone and I dont want to downgrade too much. Apparently it will cost over 200 to fix the screen. I went to costco and they mostly had s10 and note 10 with the exception of a samsung A5(?). The verizon store had the note 9 but was more expensive than a note 10. Are there other phones out there that are cheaper but decently comparable to a S8? Shpuld I wait to see if any sales come up? Should I fix the screen? I'm willing to switch to different brands but I really, really dont want to do iphone. I use my phone for school a lot as I dont have a laptop or desktop so the processing is something I'd rather not downgrade too much. The water resistance and durability of the S8 was def something I would prefer to keep. Of course, I'm willing to budge on most of these things if the price is worth it. Sorry for any formatting issues. Im on my cracked phone lol
